{Received August 23, 9.10 a.m.) LONDON, 22nd August. Tho Japanese troops have captured the northernmost part of the western line under defence, but the Russian fire pre-> vents its occupation. It is repeated at Chefoo that the Ri/bsians havo recaptured some positions. It is also staled that eight destroyers escaped from Port Arthur. Seven Japanpse destroyers are searching for them.'
