She expects to be absent from this colony for some time. Mr. V. A. Sproule, representative in Now Zealand of tho American and Aus.tralian Steamship Company (the Oceanic Co.), is on v visit to Wellington. Ho leaves for the South this evening by the (joLliic. Miss Dillon remains nt Singapore, but her brother leturns. Mi.ss Florence Fcnwick and Mi&s E. M. Slmnd, of Dunedin, have booked passages to London by the Gothic, which i.s to sail from Wellington next month. Miss M. Law, of Auckland, has alao booked by J.ku vessel. MY. J. W. Brindley, general manager of tho Stuto Firo Insurance Department, will leavo for the South in n day or two for the purpose of establishing branches and agencies. Tho Liiicf Accountant of tho Department (Mr. John Uowden) has gono to lluwkes Bay on a ximilur mission. The lahb of the famous Ngatironniopoto chiefs, To llangi Tuataka Tnkcie, says tho Auckland Star, has gone to his illustrious forefathers at^ the age of 70 years. Ho died a few days ago at Mahoonui, in tho King Country. Ho was a fmo typo of the lighting rangntiras, although he lived quietly and unobtrusively, und was mostly famous in his later years for his dignihed hospitality. Cabinet has appointed Mr. J. Hnrker, of Wnipawa, a member of tho Napier Harbour Board, vice Mr. Caruell, Mayor of Napier, who becouus ex otiiuio a meinbrr. Mr. Darker has been cliommi to fill tho vacancy in order that the country districts may* have greater representation on the Board. Cabinet has also appointed the Mayor of Oivymoutli (Mr. J. A. Petrie) and tho Mayor of llokitika (Mr. J. Mandl) members of the Greymouth Harbour Board.
