FOR- TILE CHILD'S SAKE.
A pathetic letter was read in the London Divorce Court on 18th April (soys tho St. James's Budget), when Mrs. Josephine Margaret Graydon asked for a divorce from her husband, Dr. Archibald Graydon. Tho marriage- took placo secretly in 1892, wheu Dr. Graydon was living with his mother in Uuyswatcr. A girl was born m the 'following year, and then the doctor refused to sw; his wife any more. In 1900, when Mrs. Graydou was living at Worcester, ©ho wrote tho following letter :—: — "Dear Archie, — I am sorry to trouble you, but 1 feel I must do so. Ever since I camoi to Worcester I have beon mndo very miwrablo by people making remarks about my being alone, and no one ever «ces my husband; but luttorly things have been very much worse, and as our poor littlo Mary grows older they will still be so. "If you would only have como and seen Mary now and then it would have- made things better for her, but when her litWo school friends ask her when lost sho saw her father, and **he tells them she has never seen him yot, it looks at lenet strange, and one pewwn refused' to allow hur littlo girl to go out with Mary to tea, as sho did not think her mother M-as married, or tho father would be eecn sometime*. "Aii© things to go for ever like they are doing, Archie? Had I been a bad woman I could not hnvo moro to bear. Won't you see your little, child sometimes? She is a sweet littlo creature. I don't ask you to give mo any love. I have lived without it from you for seven years now, Archie — ever since God gave mo my littla girl ; and after all there is no love so true as a littlo child's." The father never came to see tho child, and last year ho wrote that ho was going abroad. Enquiries resulted in the petition being tiled. A decree nisi was granted.
