At tho Butter Commission enquiry, an ox-Government expert gave evidence that up lo 1892, when the Government, brand disappeared, largo quantities of "Sew Zealand buttur wcro imported into Victoiia, " and an infernally bad lot it was." Tho witness added that he never passed any, although some may have gone to England. Ho believed that margarine was at times introduced as milled butter, and sent Ilomo in order to earn a bonus.
