THE COURT TRIAL. [press association.] LONDON, 27th January. The trial of Whitiikcr Wright took place before Mr. Justice Ditigliiun and a apochti jmy, and lasted two.ye days. ThroiTghuul the proceedings Wright presented tin undaunted fronr, and displayed consummate coolness under v merciless cross-examination. He, however, made uutncioua damaging admissions. He declared lie had only dono what ninety-nine out of every hundred managing directors would do. Counsel for tha defence implied that the verdict against Wright involved condemnation of Lord Dullerin and Lord Loch, but. Mr. Justico Bingham dissented from this view, taying their conduct, ho far as was known, was consistent with honest mistakes or negligence. THE JUDGE'S SUMMJNG UP. SUSPICIONS OF POISON. (Received January 28, 7.40 a.m.) LONDON, 27th January. Mr. Justice- 7 Mngham's summing up was .strongly adverse to tho prisoner. The jury deliberated an hour beforo bringing in a verdict. Tl>c Judge said he concurred with the veulict, and declared Ihal.lio was unnblo to conceive a worse case of tho kind. W right, who was much surprised, at tho sentence, remarked: "I can only say I am innocent of any attempt to doceive." When he was removed to tho consulta-tion-room of tho High Court, and while smoking a cigar and talking to a friend, declaring that a great injustice had bcon dono him, Wright suddenly collapsed, dying within half an hour, during which he remained unconscious. Throughout the trial his health was apparently good, excopting that he complained of suffering from insomnia. Many reports assert that he poisoned himself, and startling revelations are expected at Iho inquebl. Tab'.oids were found in his pocket.
