PRESENTATION TO ARCHDEACON FANCOURT.
A PURSE OF 500 GUINEAS. Tho high esteem in which tho Venerable Archdeacon Fancourt is hold by tho clerical and lay members of tho Wellington Diocesau Synod and other members of the Church, Mas demonstnitcd last evening, when he was waited on at his rosklonco by tho Executive Committee appointed for tho purpose and presented with un address and a purse of sovereigns. Tho Rev. T. H. Sprott, Chairman of the Committee, briefly stated the object of tho visit, und tho atldroMS wus then read by Mr, D. M'Kollur, lion. Secretary, a» follow* : — "To tho Venerable Thomas Fnnco'urt, Archd'pacon of Wellington : We tho undersigned, representing tho clerical and lay niembeis of the Wellington Diocesan Synod, and may other membors of tho Church, both in town and country, who have loarnt deeply to appraciato your devoted labours, dosire to express on tho oyo of your departure for England our sincere regret for your recent illness. Wo earnestly hope that you nnd Miss Fancourt may havo a safe voyage and \ pleamint sojourn in tho dear Motherland, and will both benefit by the change Wo nssuro you that your kindly presence will bo widely misacd, and wo shall all look forward to welcoming you back in the not distant) future thoroughly renewed ia health and strength, and ablo once moro by God's blessing to tnko up tho very important duties which you liavo faithfully and efllclontly discharged for so many years in the service of His Church". We hope that you will accopt tho accompanying gift a« a slight token of our affection and grateful orteom." Mr. T. F. Martin endorsed tho statements in tho address, and asked the Archdeacon to accept a purse containing, about fivo hundred guineas. He wan deeply grateful far the sympathy iihown to him in hid illnora, arid no trusted that by the mercy of God ho might return with renewed* health and strength to work for a vrhilo moro in tho Church and Dioceso that ho loved so well. Tho Executive Committee consisted of the Rev*. T. IL Sprott and G. P. Dsvys, Messrs. E. Anderson, J. C. Andrew, T. F. Mnrtin, G. E. TulUurst, D. M'Kellar, end E. Thornton. The Archdeacon's medical adviser* having recommended a thorough rest and chnngo, ho will leuvo curly in January for London via Australia, , accompanied by Miss Funcourt. »
