PERSONAL MATTERS.
Miss Eugenic Duggan (Mrs. William Anderson), leading Tady of the Lyceum Theatre, Sydnoy, arrived from Sydney by the Waikaro last evening. . The ministers for Public Works and Lands left for the South last night. The only members of the Government now in Wellington are the Postmaster-General anu Minister for Customs. Mr. T. Mackenzie, M.H.R. for Waikouaiti, is in town to-day. His son leaves for England this afternoon on his way to finish his medical studies at Edinburgh. Sir William and Lady Russell, who have been at Rotorua- for somo time, reached New Plymouth from the Manukau yesterday on their way back to Hastings. Bishop Welldon left for Nelson en routo for tho West Co&st last night. Ho will leavo Melbourne for England on the 19th prox., iv company with Lord Tennyeon, late Governor-General of tho Commonwealth, who is a close friend of tho Bishop's. j Mr. Charles Coles, organist of the Scots Church, has been presented With an illuminated address and a valuablo dressing-caso by tho management, choir, and congregation of the church, in rocoguition of his ready and valuable services since tho opening of the church. Mr.\ E. Howe, a popular member of Jupp's Band, with which ho has beon connected, since a boy, was last evening pie&ented by tho members with a serviceable clock, bearing a silver plate with a suitable inscription. The presentation was made on account oi Mr. Howe's appreaching marriage. Mr. A. -Wood, electrical engineer for Messrs'. Macartney, M'Elroy and Co., Ltd., contractors for tho installation of Wellington's new tram system, arrived hero by the Waikare last night. Mr. Wood, who lias luid considerable experience in tho supervision of similar works on a largo scale, will remain in Wellington for about two years. Amongst the passengers from Sydnoy by the^ Waikare .aat night was Mr. Edward FitzGerald (youngest son oi the late Mr. J. E. FitzGerald), who has not been in New Zealand sinco he left as an officer of ono of tho South African Contingents. Mr. J. H. M'Kay, of the firm of Criehte-n and M'Kay, architects, also came back by the same vessel. Yesterday two presentations weromade to Mr. D. L. Luxford. Tho first was from his present colleagues on the Government Pathological Laboratory Staff, for whom Mr. Reakes (in tlio absence of Mr. Gilruth) acted as spokesman, and the second from his old comrades on the Wellington Press, Mr. Qresley Lukin presiding. Mr. Luxford is to bo married on Monday next. . Mr. A. E. While, General Secretary of the Young Men's Christian Association, was last night presented- by the members of the association with a handsome bicycle as a token of their appreciation. Mr. Aitken, M.H.R,, who made tho presentation, said that it afforded him great pleasure, as President of tho Young: Men's Christian Association, in handing the bicycle to Mr. A. E. White, os he' had proved Himself worthy of the gift. A very pleasant musical programme followed. Tho Count Vay do Vaya leaves Wellington to-day by the Rimutoka for Buenos Ayres, South America. He expects to hie in Romo for tho Easter celebrations, and by. tho time he returns to his homo in Hungary, he will have been away four years. The Count is much impressed with what he has seen in New Zealand, and he believes tho social condition -of the people to be superior to that of any other 'countty. In addition to conducting church services, doing parochial work, etc., he, has spoken 363 times in public in tho Australasian colonies.
