— <&> STATEMENT BY SIR E. BARTON. [press association.] MELBOURNE, 22nd September. Replying to a question in the Federal House of Representatives, Sir Edmund Barton said tie statement published in the press did not represent the actual position in regard to the appointments to the High Court. A definite announcement on the subject would first bo made in Parliament. It is unofficially stated that Sir Edmund Barton has received a telegram notifying Sir Samuel Griffith's acceptance of the Chief Justiceship. PROBABLE RECONSTRUCTION OF THE MINISTRY. (Received September 23, 10.25 a.m.) MELBOURNE, This Day. In the reconstruction of the Ministry necessary if the High Court appointments are confirmed it is understood that the Hon. Alfred Deakin will form a Ministry, and that Mr. Chapman, Government Whip, will receive a portfolio, Senator (Playford to become "Vice-President oi the Executive Council, the office at present held by the Hon. R. E. O'Connor. >
