It is unofficially stated that Sir Edmund Barton has received a telegram notifying Sir Samuel Griffith's acceptance of the Chief Justiceship. PROBABLE RECONSTRUCTION OF THE MINISTRY. (Received September 23, 10.25 a.m.) MELBOURNE, This Day. In the reconstruction of the Ministry necessary if the High Court appointments are confirmed it is understood that the Hon. Alfred Deakin will form a Ministry, and that Mr. Chapman, Government Whip, will receive a portfolio, Senator (Playford to become "Vice-President oi the Executive Council, the office at present held by the Hon. R. E. O'Connor. >
