DESPATCH OF THE RUSSIAN ~ SQUADRON. GERMAN NEWSPAPERS IRRITATED. [press association."! BERLIN, 20th August. The Cologne Gazette and other German newspapers betray irritation at the despatch of the Russian squadron to Turkish waters. The squadron is expected to rendezvous in the Gulf of Iriada. CONSTANTINOPLE, 20th August. The Porte is aware that the squadron is intended to uphold Russian prestige. The Porte is willing to concede the demands which have been made by Russia, with the exception of the appointment of Christian officers to the gendarmerie, on which point difficulties are urged. It is also feared that the insurgents will interpret the despatch of the squadron as intervention.
