fPKF.SS ASSOCIATION.! CHRISTCHURCH, 16th July. The ratepayers of Papanui — one of the suburbs just outside the boundary of the newly-formed Greater Christchurch — are taking steps to have their district formed into a borough. The suburb covers about 1500 acres and contains about 3000 persons. At present Papanui forms part of two road districts. It was stated at a meeting of the Tramway Board to-day that the owner had accepted an offor of £1000 for two and a half acres south-east of the city as the site for a power-house and carsheds. In the same locality one acre two roods twelve perches could be secured at £500 an acre. This Day. The drjver of a motor-car was charged in the Magistrate's Court this morning wilth furiously driving his car across Cathedral-square on Sunday night, sth July. The police alleged that the speed of the car was forty miles an hour. The information was dismissed, on the ground that it sfhould have been laid under the Motor-car Act, 1902, instead of the Police Offences Act. DUNEDIN, 16th July. At a meeting of the Education Board it was resolved that the scholarship regulations be amended with a view to offering annually two scholarships for pupils attending schools where only one teacher is engaged. INVERCARGILL, 16th July. The special committee which has been considering the plans for a Town Hall has recommended to the Council for first place those signed "Progress," "Lorgnette" being placed second, with "Forward" or "Rata." third. The Council went into committee and afterwards resolved to ask Mr. Charlesworth, of Wellington, if not a competitor, to examine the four plans and advise the Council as to their merits.
