The mam building is overcrowded to the extent of between sixty and seventy patients, and this overcrowding keeps on increasiug co that by tho time accommodation was provided for the present surplus of inmates — which would at the shortest be twelve months — there would in all probability be need of still further accommodation. Last year the sum of £1000 was voted for an addition to the bulding, but for some reason has not been expended. At the half-yearly meeting of the female branch of the H.A.C.B. Society, held at St. Patrick's Hall last evening, the following officers were installed by Sister M. Robinson, P.P. : — President, Sister D. OTlaherty; Vice-President, Sister A. Hearn ; Secretary, Sister K. L. Robinson ; Treasurer, Sister A. Grant ; Warden, Sister E. Hicks ; Guardian, Sister N. Trainer. By resolution, the secretary was instructed to forward a letter to the District President, Hon. William Beehan, congratulating him on his elevation to the Legislative Council. The agents for Capilla Hair Tonic insert a testimonial from an eminent Australian statesman, who speaks in high terms as to the benefit he derived from its use. To-morrow, at 11 o'clock, Mr. W. F. Shortt will commence what is said to be one of the largest sales of clothing held in Wellington. The goods 'are claimed to be of the best quality, and parents are advised by the auctioneers to attend this sale, as every line will be sold without reserve. Messrs. Sidey, Meech and Co. advertise an extensive unreserved sale of 100 superior pictures at their rooms to-morrow, on account of Mr. Walker, of the South Island, who is retiring from business. The same firm have a notification to the effect that on Friday, 31st July, and Saturday, Ist August, they will hold what promises to be one of the most extensive pawnbrokers' sales held here for years.
