ATTEMPTED ROBBERY.

[BY TELEGBAFH —PKESS ASSOCIATION.] AUCKLAND, This Day. An attempted highway robbery in the conventional style is reported from Avondale, near Auckland. Mr. George Downing, a blacksmith, who was riding home from Hobsonville at night, was stopped by a man who suddenly appeared from behind a ti-tree and shouted " Hands up!" Downing's pony shied and galloped back to Hobsonville. Downing saw another man lurking in the vicinity. The spot ia lonely. It was known locally that Downing usually carried money home from, his branch business at Hobsonville.
