A feature to-day at the annual salea of stud sheep was the strong demand for flock auimals, the average prices for this class, both for merinos and longwools, being higher than those of previous years. The offerings, which consisted chiefly of New South Wales and Tasmanian longwools, included two lots of New Zealand Shropshires. Forty-nine rams, on account of Mr. Thomas Coates, of Remuera, brought 2£gs to 2%g8, and nine rams and eleven ewes, on account of Mr. C. Rhodes, of Hunua, realised 2igs to 3£ga. SOUTHERN STOCK SALES. CHRISTCHURCH, Bth July. There was a large entry of stock, and a good attendance of buyers at Addington market to-day. Fat Cattle.— Over 170 head were yarded, and prices were n'rm at an increase on last week's rates. Steers, £6 15s to £10, extra prime to £15 12s 6d; heifers, £5 17s 6d to £11 10s; cows, £5 5s to £10 15s ; beef 28s to 31s per 1001b. Fat Sheep. — There was another large yarding, and the keen demand which has been noticeable for some time was again in evidence, recent rates being more than maintained. Freezing wethers and best quality ewes showed a rise of 6d per head. A feature of the sal© was a consignment of 38 show wethers from the New Zealand and Australian Land Company's Totara estate, which -realised from 35s to 655,' the higher prices constituting a record for the colony. Tho range of prices was^ — Extra heayy wethers, 35s to 655; freezing wethers, 17s to 263 3d; merinos for freezing, 15s to 20s; others, lls ld to 14s 2d ; freezing ewes, aged, 14s to 20s; butchers', 12s 6d to 21s sd ; wethers and ewea, 17s 4d to 21s 9d. Fat Lambs. — About 1550 penned, and all of prime quality met with keen competition on the part of export buyers, with the results that prices advanced 6d per head on the previous week's rates and that the quantity secured by butchers was very small. Tegs, 17s 9d to 19s 9d; a few extra large, 27s 6d ; freezers, 13s 7d to 17s 6d ; butchers', 12s 6d to 16s. Pigs. — A small entry met with improved demand for baconers. Baconers, 45s to 625, equal to 4|d lo 5d per lb ; porkers, 34s to 445, equal to 5d to s£d per lb; choppers, £3 to £5 18s, DUNEDIN, Bth July. At Burnside market to-day the Bales were in favour of vendors. Cattle.— About 160 j'arded. Best bullocks,'£ll to £12 18s 6d, one pen of extra heavy bringing £12 12s 6d; medium, £8 17s 6d, to £10 . 12s 6d ; others, £7 10a to £8 ss ; best cows, £9 to £9 15s, one pen of extra reaching £10 7s 6d. Sheep numbered 730.' Best wethera, to 22s 9d; medium, 15s to 18s; others, 13a 6d to 14s 9d; best ewes, 17s 9d; medium, 13s 6d to 15s; others, 12s 6d to 13s 2d. Lambs. — Close on 400 on offer. Best, 13s 3d to 15s, one pen of extra good, 16s 3d; medium, lls 6d to 13s; others, 9s to 12s. Pigs. 47 yarded. Suckers, 12s to 17s; stores, 23s to 28s ; porkers, 35s to 445 ; baconers, 50s to 655; big pigs, 725. No sb"ps were yarded. DUNEDIN GRAIN MARKET. DUNEDIN, Bth July. Wheat. — The demand is very slack for all sorts of milling, and sales are difficult to make at quotations. Fowl wheat is offering in large quantities at slightly reduced rates. Primo milling, 4s to 4s 2d; medium, 3s 4d to 3s 9d; wholo fowl wheat, 3s to 3s 2d; damaged, 2s 6d to 2s lOd, sacks extra. Oats. — Fair enquiry for prime milling and seed lines, but for feed the demand is limited and sales of larger lines cannot be effected. Choice seed lines, 2s to 2s 3d; prime milling, Is 9d to Is lOd; good to best feed, Is 8d to Is Bid ; inferior and medium, Is 5d to Is 7d, sacks extra. PRODUCE MARKET. Messrs. Laery and Co.
