[PBKS3 ASSOCIATION.! HOKITIKA, This Day. At the District Court to-day, before Judge Ward, Peter Jones,' Patrick Campbell, William Edward Barrow, and Robert Davis were charged with escaping from custody. The two latter were also charged with theft-. Accused pleaded Guilty and were sentenced, Jones and Campbell to three months, and Barrow and Davis to four months' imprisonment each. Prisonera complained bitterly of the treatment they received in gaol before and after the offence. Judge Ward stated that he would advise the Minister for Justice to hold an enquiry into the statements, and if they were corroborated would recommend a mitigation of sentence. THAMES, This Day. The Hon. Mr. M'Gowan, Minister for Mines, is being consulted as to the present condition of the Thames goldfield. The Minister is to be entertained at a banquet to-night in recognition of his «rvices to Parliament as member for the Thames. Owir.g to the emallness of the grant to the Goldfields Cadets — 5s per year — together with the fact that they are not allowed to be attached to volunteer carps prepared to assist, the Thames cadet corps is to be disbanded.
