A case against Hook, licensee of the Commercial Hotel, on a similar charge^was dismissed, the Magistrate exercising discretionary power under section 87 of the Justice of the Peace Act, on the grounds that the house was exceptionally well conducted and the licensee's wife was induced to supply the liquor through the truculent demeanour of the persons who demanded it.
