THE CONCILIATION BOARD'S BECOMMENDATIONS. The Conciliation Board yesterday gave its recommendations in the dispute tiled by the Wellington Opeiativo Bakers' Union. The Board's, recommendations are in the mam an adaptation of the union's demand's. The chief disappointment of the union is that the Board has nob granted the demand for an eight-hour workday. The Board recommends nine hours as the day's work, and stipulates that, except on Saturdays (when iroik shall fetart not earlier than 3 a.m.), (he hour of starting shall be not earlier than 4 a.m. The rates of overtime at present observed , are to continue, and the rates of wages also are unaltered. 'I'he rates l.mgc from a minimum of JB3 5s for foremen to not less than £2 10s for the ordinary weekly worker, and the jobber jioL less than 10s per day. The weekly allowance of t3iii teen loaves of bread per man is to continue. No employer is to employ more than tmo appientlces, and the term of indenture is to bo five years. In the city, and at all places where there i.« a bank, wage* must be paid weekly and iv ca.-'h, and at other places fortnightly. Preference of employment to members of the Wellington union, or any other union which might be formed in the district, is granted on tha u iu.il terms, and a clause provides for special

terms for incompetent workmen. The term of the agreement is for two years. The Chairman of the Board (Mr. Crewe-.) intiraatad that the Board had narrowed down the issues in the event of no settlement being arrived at between the parties to the distmte. The Board would hold over the filing of its recommendations until the Bth December, so as to give the paities an opportunity of eonsidaiing tho matter.
