THE EDUCATION BILL. [PBESS ASSOCIATION.! LONDON, 28th November. In the House of Commons, ±^v. Cripps, Conservative member for the Stretford division of Lancashire, moved the omission from the Education Bill ot Colonel Kenyon Slaney's amendment, previously accepted by the Government, which gave the managers of schools control of religious instruction. The Prime Minister (Mr. Balfour) said that, theoretically, there -was something in the comments of the clergy regarding the power conferred, but there was little real fear of the laity attempting to override the cleugy's control qf religious teaching. Mr. Cripps's motion was defeated by 294 votes to 35.
