THE WEST COAST.

Aldinga's last return was lOoz for 135 hours. Good returns are not looked for for nearly a month yet, as the dredgemaster is of opinion that the best goldis to be found on the north side of the creek, which has been worked by a deep tailrace to near the top of the beach. Says the Otago Daily Times * "A halfyearly balance-sheet for the period ended 30th September last has been issued to shareholders, who will see that when the cash in hand and available at that date was placed against the amounts then owing there was a deficiency of £109 13a lid. This was more than accounted for by the stoppage of the dredge for three weeks in September, during the whole of which time wages .were being paid for necessary repairs on the dredge and other work. The cost of renewing the brokoa parts of machinery is also included in this statement of accounts. It will be interesting, therefore, under the circumstances, for shareholders to know that up to Ist November there has been further gold won since the statement of accounts was made up to the value of £337 15s 80l which enables the company to pay all lial bilities, including interest on debenture* to 14th July last. The dredge is now: working very satisfactorily." Last week 11 dredging companies, owm* ing 12 dredges, got 30oz or more ; two got 220z; two got 15oz; three got lOoz ; and one (Great Woodstock), 7oz 12dwt- Mosquito was top with 61oz, and Nolown North Beach, and Pactolus (two dredges! got 50oz to 60oz. This is a good record ' especial^ as Nejgon Creek is an absentee,'
