At a London dinner, General A Horace Porter, of the United States Army, was once referred to by the Chairman in 'the following way : "We have here to-night General Horace .Porter, and I call upon him for a speech; the gentleman is like 1 a slot-machine : you' put in a dinner and out comes a speech."
