ARAWA SAILING CLUB.

. «, The report to be presented at the annual meeting of the Arawa Sailing Club to-morrow states that the past season's racing failed to approach the standard of previous seasons, as in some .of the events on the programme the races did not eventuate, in others the interestflagged owing to the cutries being few, and in sailing-masters having, entered 1 their boats nob bringing them to tho starting-line. Thcro is no doubt, howj ever (says the report), that tho principal cause of tho want of interest in lacing displayed by 'the members is due to tho absence of suitable accommodation for our small boats. Notwithstanding the fact that assurances were made by the authorities that tho long-expected boat harbour and sheds would bo sufficiently far advanced to enable boats to tako up quarters in it for the coming season, there does not seem any probability of such being the case, with the result that the club has to suffer for another year. Is is almost impossible . to get boatowners to take part in the races arranged by tho club, and under the circumstances one can hardly be surprised. Ths com- _ mittee- therefore recommend that there be no club races during the corning reason, and that no subscriptions bo collected for the year 1902-1903, as the Treasurer has sunicient funds in hand to pay working' expenses for Ihe new year. There is now a membership of 93, and the club has a credit balance. Tho thanks of the club aro due to Mr. R. C. Renner for his donation of a trophy and foi 1 his work as Secretary during the greater part of the season ; to Mr. J. D. M. Georgeson, Vice-Commodore, for his donation of a trophy ; to the owners of Kotiri and Captain J. Jones for their donations to the club funds ; to Mr. G. C. Highet for acting as starter, judgo, and timekeeper; and to the Evening Post and New Zealand Times for the* reports of club proceedings.
