The opening night in Wellington of Wirihs' Circus is tixed for next Thursday, on the locition behind the Opera Hoiibe. The booking is at Holliday's, and those who intend attending the opening perfoimance are advised to book their seats at once, as a great rush is anticipated. There aie no more enterprising cateiers for public amusement in their linp in the colonit* than the Messrs. Wirth, and they are seldom at a loss for a new attraction or a novelty for the pleasure-seeking portion of the community. Last time manj' new and novel features were witnessed, but this season we are promised even more. The menagerie is greatly strengthened, the horse department has been improved upon, and the human actors are reputed to be introducing new and wonderful acts. The Howard Brothers have appeared before Royalty, and their exhibition is described as marvellous. Miss Sadie Casino is the only lady clown we have heard of in New Zealand. The Cantons appear in a remarkable high-ladder act, and Miss Mariz.es's serpentine dance on horseback and flight through space are also new to New Zealand. The seating accommodation of tho Sacred Heart Basilica, Hill-street, was taxed to the utmost last evening on the occasion of the sacred concert given by the choir in aid of the organ fund. The concert was moat enjdyable. The choir was assisted by Mad'ime Eveleen Carlton, Miss Ettie Maginnily, Mr. Arthur Ballance, and an eiKcient orchestra under the baton of Mr. S. Chniuo, jun., and led by Mr. John M'Gtashan. Archbishop Redwood's appeal for liberal contribulions towards the organ fund win well responded to. Miss Putnam was organist. The next lecture of the series in connection with the Newtown Public Library will be given by the Rev. J. R Glasson on Wednesday evening. The subject will be "Tolstoy." A conceit and dance in aid of the State school funds w ill be held at Heginbotham's Hall, Kilbirnie, on Wednesday evening.
