SHOOTING CASE AT PETONE. A BOY INJURED.

A pcculiai and painful shooting case happened at Pelone hhortly before 11 a.m. to-day, by which a lad named Adams, aged 12 years, loßt the second finger oit' each hand, and was otherwise injured in hands and thighs. It seem» that a carrier named Sloke heaid a noise or report, and, looking for its cause, saw a lad named Adnms standing, wilh no one near him, m Kelly'rf-lane, and holding up his hands, which w<>re bleeding. Mrs. Kelly, who lives close by, also heard what she calls an explosion, and on going out saw the lad as described by Mr. Stokes. The boy was put on an express and taken to Dr. Ross's surgery, whence he was removed to the Wellington Hospital. Tho injury to the thigh was apparently caused by shot, but the examination at Petone was not sufficient to establish this. The impression piuvails at Petone that the lad was playing with a cailridge or a dynamite cap that exploded between his fingers. The boy, when attended to ut Petone, was unable to Mate what caused the mishap. Since the above was in type we learn that the boy has informed the Hospital authorities that he was walking • along tho road when he heard the report bohind him, and received the injuries. He says he is unable to make further explanation. The examination at the Hospital revealed shot in different parts of the body, and the theory at the Hospital is that the shot was fired from fiome little distance off, apparently bearing out what the boy says.
