Sir Gordon Sprigg, Premier, in mentioning in tho (Jape Parliament tlnit the military authorities had hitherto expended half a. million to cover compendiation requisitions, announced that a Bill would be introduced authorising n loan of a million and a quarter to meet claims for compensation The Premier added that tho Government Gazette would announce the repeal of martial law. The statement was cheered by the Afrikander members. A proclamation by tho Governor states that he is assured that tho necessity for martial law has ended. The Hon. Air. Merriman, in discussing ths Indemnity Bill in thte Cape Parliament, Bftid the Imperial Government was alone liable for losses resulting from tho second rebellion. Mr. De Wools declared that, although the people had rebelled, they might be compensated for loss of stock.
