THE MACQUARIE ISLANDS.
During the discussion on the Imprest Supply Bill yesterday afternoon, Mr. J. Allen said he had good authority for stating that tho Acting-Premier and Mr. Joseph Hatch were in close relationship in the lease of the Macquarrie Islands from the Tasnmnian Government. Sir Joseph Ward immediately asked Mr. Allen to give his authority for making such a statement. Persons responsible for the statement wero either very unreliable or very untruthful, and he emphatically denied that he had now, or ever had, any interest with Mr. Hatch in connection with the Islands.- On the contrary, he had made representations to the Tasmonion Government on behalf of the Port Chalmers fishermen, who had a grievance against Mr. Hatch. Mr. Allen said he did -not feel inclined to give up the name of his authority. His authority had really done Sir Joseph a good service in giving him an opportunity to publicly deny the allegation. He was only too glad to hear the Acting-Premier's denial.
