CO-EDUCATION. '
President W. R. Harper, of the Chicago University, and the majority of the faculty have*come to the conclusion that bettep university work can be accomplished by a separation of the sex«s. Too much " goo-goo eyes," too much " billing and cooing," too much "squeezing and wooing" intermingle in the co-educational plan. The Rev. Jenkin Lloyd Jones, a minister in the neighbourhood, thrratins to enter court and demand an injunction to restrain President Harper and the faculty from separating the boys md girls. Ho says— -"The action of the collego faculty is on outrage agaimt -the progressiveness of the twentieth oent».ry, and is an attempt to revive at this age of civilisation the raonastio life of the Middle Ages. It is the result of a sad reactionary tendency, which is hnmci to be sooner or later utterly overthrown. The faculty lias been influenced in its action by the promise of £300,00 Con cbndition that it take such action The tendencies to represent the man side of the college have simply overcomo all ideas of right and wrong and of justice to the woman side. The arguments for two entirely non-co-educational institutions have weight, but it is ridioulous for a single college governmer tto 1 1 .empt to administer the affairs otf a woman's university aud" a man's university at the same time." It is needless to say, all the women oppose such an action. They are not backward in stati ig thej prefer to be with the men stud«jita in nil that co-education. implies. Dr. Hjijier will leave it to a vote of the mcii students whether reciUtiois and tectuns shall be in mixed olasses of men/ And -ti omen. It is said that* a majority of tht men oppose the presence of women in the classes.— -San Francisco Argon *dt.
