THE WEST COAST.

Greenstone Three-mile has dropped from its recent sUoz record to 230z 13dwt. The ground is reported hard. Leviathan dredgemaster expects a six months' run without having to further repair the- dredge. The last return is 28oz 3dwt. At the annual general meeting of shareholders in the Stafford Waimea Gold Dredging Company, Mr. James Kelman (Chairman of Directors) admitted that it was quite evident that the machinery of the dredge was somewhat Jjght to advantageously deal with the rough and heavy ground which so far had been met with. The dredge was, however, now not very far from where the fiist prospecting shaft wtw put down, and there was every reason to believe that better results would be- obtained when this place was reached, as the ground then would not be so difficult to treat, ft bting of a looser nature. Letters wen read from Mr. T. V. Byrne and Dr E. H. Scott (two West Coast sharehold ers in the company), condemning the pre Bent dredge as being unsuitable und inadequate <b profitably work the claim, which they considered to be one of the best on the Coast. It was finally decided that the present dredge should bo given a further trial, and that, if it' was found that she was still unable' to profitably work the ground afte? reaching the neighbouihood of the first prospecting shaft, steps be taken to secure a more suitable machine. It was furfchei decided that in the meantime the directors be requested to make a call on 4io contributing capital of la per share to meet' the present liabilities of the company.
