Thb police have received information that at hju inquest held at Otaki on Dorothy Drake, a^ed 7£ years. Ihe verdict was that dea.th was caused by shock, the result of a. severe whipping administered by the mother of deceased, The mother, Harriet Drake, has been charged with manslaughter. Our Ouki correspondent telegraphs that Mrs. Drake was brougkt before Messrs. Byron Brown and F. Bennett, Juatioes, tins morning, and pleaded not guilty to the charge. She was remanded Till Wedneuday next. Bail was accepted— two sureties of £200 each.
