Troops to the numbor of 1400,- representing each regiment of the Britinu Army in South Africa, on board tuo transport Bavaria, are expected to arrive in London on tho 25th iiißt. Captain MucDonald, Lieutenants Blair, Hardham, and Wilson, and ilftyoue mcr of the New Zeuliuul Mounted Iliiles, and Captain Taia'iaki and Lieuteuant Uru and thirty-one Maoris, are passengers by the Kinfauns Castle, from Capetown to England. Mr. Seddon is expected to arrive in London on Saturday next. Mr. Barton, Premier of the Commonwealth of Australia, and Sir John Forrest, Minister for Defence, are expected in London on the 19th inst. NATIONAL GIFT TO THE KING. LONDON, 10th June. Tho Lord Mayor of London presided over a groat meeting at the Mansion [ House to-day to arrange v Coronation gift to tke- King, who lias desired that it be given to a hospital. It was resolved by' the meeting to open a national fund, towards whick the sum of £55,000 was subscribed by those present. (Received Juno 11, 9.39 a.m.) SYDNEY, This Day. The Proteßtant churches have arranged to hold a united Bervico in tho Town Hall on Coronation Day. (Received June 11, 10.12 a.m.) MELBOURNE, This Day. The Federal House rejected an item of £300 to pay the expenses of a Coronation church-service in Melbourne. The foeling of the House was strongly against subsidising churches, and thus causing possible irritation among religious bodios. Mr. J. B. Hcrkirk, Headmaster of the Brooklyn School) or.d Mr. Sinclair (a member of the committee of that school) waited upon the Melroso Borough Council last night and urged thai it should vote a sum of money to establish a library at each of the schools in the borough, to commemorate the Coronation. The Mayor explained that a suggestion had been made that tho'Council should found a scholarship. Mr. Hopkirk said the idea of a sckolarehip was a I good one, but care would have to be taken that the smaller r-chaols were not handicapped as against tho larger schools. The Council also received a letter from Mr. J. H. Worboys, headmaster of Kilbirnie School, suggesting that it should establish school libraries to commemorate the Coronation. Tho suggestion was referred to the Council's Coronation Committee, with instructions to confer on the subject with the head teachers of the borough school*. At tho meeting of tho Karon Borough ,Council last nigfct, the report of the subcommittee of tho Council and tho *übcommittee of the State Scjool Committee stated that tke school committee had no funds available for providing for tho children on Coronation Day, but its members would give every personal assistance as far as they could. The Council decided to grant £16. The Petone committee met last evening nnd fixed the programme for tho local celebration. A prolusion in which all local institutions are to lie invited to take part will leave the Railway Station at 11 a.m. for the Recreation Ground. On arrival at the ground patriotic songs and the National Anthem will bo sung by the school children. Addresses are expected to be mado by the Mayor, Sir James Hector, Mr. T. M. Wilford, and Mr. R. C. Kirk, and the foundation stone of a band rotunda will be laid by the Mayor, arid trees will be planted by members of tho committee. Special prizes are to be given foe the best farcy costume worn by boys and girls under fourteen years of age. Mr. vv\ Austin I was appointed Marshal.
