In compliance with a strong protest from tho city members tho Minister for Railways has agreed to the temporary abandonment of tho contract system of cartage with the Railway Department ab Dunedin, and to permit a trial for six months of delivery by licensed carriers. Three cases under the Dairy Industry Act came before the Police Court to-day, and as none were bad cases and the intention was to make tho terms of tho law more generally known, the defendants wero let off with a fine of five shillings and costs each. The first case was for not cleaning out a byre immediately before milking. Defendant cleaned it out morning and night, but not immocHately before milking in tho morning.
