PALMERSTON N., 17th April. The final meeting of the Seddon Testimonial Committee was held this afternoon, when it was reported that 1661 signatures had been obtained to the testimonial and £12 7s 6d subscribed towards the presentation fund. Several amounts have yet to come in. The committee has now closed its accounts and dissolved. AUCKLAND, This Day. The Ovalau brings news that Colonel Qudgeon left Rarotongn. by the Countess of Uanfurly on 2nd April to arrange for the formation of the Niuo Island Council, nominated by the Governor of New Zealand on the recommendation of the Native Commissioner after consultation with the Arikis, also to form a Native Council 'at Palmerston Island. The Council previously formed at Niue by Mr. Percy Smith passed Acts dealing with revenue, marriage, offences, etc., but to comply with the law the Council required to be reconstituted and the laws reenacted. Robert Iboll, alias Steel, was charged in the Magistrate's Court tfik morning with obtaining £7 from Edward M'Guire, of Patea, by a valueless cheque. He was remanded to Patea. PATEA, This Day. At the meeting of the Harbour Board to-day, Mr. Leslie Reynolds, C.E., was appointed engineer for harbour improve* ment works.
