Rifleman George Hyde, .winner of the Belt at the Trentham Kiile Meeting, and his comrades in the Opaki Rifle Club were given an enthusiastic welcome home on Saturday. After being met at the station by the Mayor, Bortiugh Councillors, volunteers, Fire Brigades, and citizens, they were drawn to the town in a horseless landau headed by the Carterton Brass Band, and subsequently entertained at a banquet at the Central Hotel. The Rev. J. Paterson conducted the anniversary services in- connection with ■*~~ihe local Presbyterian Sunday-school yesterday. In the lawn tennis match played. here on Saturday, Masterton defeated the Bush representative team by 156 points to 147. GREYTOWN N., This Day. A Greytown Chinaman, Lung'Kee, has given twenty-four guineas to the local Hospital to be spent in purchasing an invalid's chair. CARTERTON, This Day. Messrs. Barron, Marchant, M'Gowan, and Reese have besn inspecting the Tablelands, Haxitotara, Longbush, Ngakonui, and Bush Gully properties, with a view to their acquisition b^y the Government as lands for settlement) at an early date.
