Two irregulars were convicted by courtmartial at Pretoria and shot for shooting surrendered Boers. BOER PRISONERS. DISSENSIONS AT BERMUDA. (Received March 10, 9.12 a.m.) LONDON, 9th March The steamer Bavarian has sailed from Durban for India with a thousand prisoners. A further batch of Boer prisoners at Hawkins Island, Bermuda, as a protest against the continuance of the war, took the oath of allegiance to Britain. A party of other prisoners thereupon attempted to drown them in the Great Sound, but th'e- military guard frustrated the attempt. The assailants were imprisoned. THE RAND MINES. (Received March 10, 9.12 a.m.) LONDON, 9th March. Thirteen hundred head of stamps are working on the Rand, but native labour is scarce. AUCKLAND, Bth March. Mrs Hayes has received a telegram from the Premier' stating that a cable message from Capetown reports that*Privats Hayes is doing well. " Hayes was reported to be suffering from enteric fever. The Premier has informed Mr Colledge that he has received a cable message from the officer commanding the Seventh Contingent stating that Lieut. Colledge's condition is satisfactory, and that he will continue to improve. The Premier has received a cablegram from Colonel Porter stating that all the wounded in his contingent are doing well. The Governor has received the following cable message from the Casualty Department, Capetown, dated 6th March : — "The following casualties are reported for the first time in the half-yearly return : —Botha's Pass, 27th December. — Seventh N.Z.M.I. — Severely wounded: 4453 Shoeing Smith T. W. Allan, 4282 W. Robertson. At Bastard's "Drift, 27th September.— Sixth N.Z.M.1.— 3248 R. Seth." [Either the roll numbers or the names are wrongly given. No. 4453 on the roll is James Allan Thomson ; 4282 is W. R. Davies, and 3248 is Trooper Ralph Lett.] = ' 1
