CONCILIATION BOARD. THE SEAMEN'S CLAIMS.
The claimants' side of the case instituted by the Wellington Branch of the Australasian. Federated Seamen's Union of Workers was still before the Board when we went to press yesterday. Mr. Young, Secretary of the union, spoke right up to the adjournment at 4.30 p.m. on the question of preference, and 'at 10.30 this morning he resumed with' renewed vigour. He regretted the existance of another Seamen's Union, but said that as there was one they must make the best of it, and he was prepared to say that they would be content if it were provided that preference be given to members of any seamen's union. He dealt at some length with the constitution of his union, bringing forward all •fhe usual arguments in favour of preference. ' Mr. Young concluded his address at 11.15, and the case was adjourned till 2.30 p.m., when the employers were to be heard.
