MINING NEWS.

» [BT TELEGEAPH — OWN COBRESFONDINT.] ; DUNEDIN, This Day. At a meeting of shareholders in the>; Tucker Plat Gold Dredging Company — one of the~NCook and Gray group investigated by the Parliamentary Committee last session — it was resolved to go into voluntary liquidation. A further meet- j ing will be held on 15th December for the appointment of a liqujdafcor. An important conference' of Charlton.j miners and representatives of the ■Gfcarl-jj ton dredging companies was held! at Gore last night to discuss the water difficulty. Mr. M'Nab, member for the district, ] rdad a telegram from the Minister ' for Mines stating that the Government would provide settlers above the stream with clean water and contribute one-third of the cost of cutting a cnannel to carry off flood water j arid silt from the dredges. The farmers present agreed to accept the offer. They had no objection to dredging being carried on if the Government provided them with clean water and a channel were cut at no cost to themselves. The cost of the channel is estimated at £500, of which amount it is presumed the Charlton dredging companies will be asked to | find two-thirds. Ultimately it was decided that the mining companies interested should be consulted as to whether they were prepared to construct a channel on those terms. The meeting was conducted in an amicable spirit, and an early settlement of a long-standing diinculty is looked for. A similar meeting in regard to Waimumu is to be held at Mntoura next month. •
