LEGISLATIVE COUNCIL AND CONCILIATION BOARD.

B » t TO THE EDITOB. » Sir— The Hon. Mr. Walker, Ministerial 7 Leader of the Legislative Council, and - other followers of the Government' have > made the statement that the throwing out ft of the wharf labourers' dispute before the s Conciliation Board was entirely the fault " of the employers. It would be as well * to tell them onoe and for all that they 7 are labouring under a misapprehension t as to facts. Mr. M'Laren, the Secre- " tary, deposed that he had complied with 7 all sections of the Act, as to which ex- > ception was taken, almost at the com' » mencement, but overruled by th« Chair1 man. Eventually evidence was voluntarily given that the prescribed notice of the dispute and demands had not been served on all members. Hence the union's secretary was endeavouring to hoodwink the Board and the employers. I may say that it was pointed, out to the Board that the union was not an industrial union within the Act, but no notice was apparently token for £ s d c reasons. So after all, the Government „ came to their rescue with an amending v c Act. We are so used to Ministerial misa statements that probably they are not j worth putting right, and it is generally » o time wasted after a 2* hours' start.— s I am, etc., * . EMPLOYER, j Wellington, Ist November, 1901.
