This is the record for any week so far. The present week is expected to be even better. The Bed Jacks dredge, which starts on Saturday, is expected to give good •returns from the start, as the machine has a good face of dirt to operate on. The Waipuna Company has' called a general meeting to consider the question of liquidation. Regarding the Maori Queen Company the Secretary writes :—" The Maori Queen dredge having tested the ground, which has been found to require special appliances for treating the wash, the directors have decided to shut 'down till these are supplied— probably for five weeks, during which time the dredgemaster and the engineer will give a good overhaul. There is every prospect that on resuming work satisfactory payable returns will be obtained"

Johnston, was found lying on the footpath in Arc-street at 10.30 o'clock last evening with his ankle dislocated and broken. He was attended by Dr. Toare and sent to the Hospital. It seems that he was using a step-ladder, which gave way, and the injury was caused in the fall. He then crawled on to the footpath. A special meeting of the Wellington Amalgamated Society of Painters and Decorators will be held in the Trades Hall on Friday evening. J
