DIX'S GAIETY COMPANY.
The last appearance of Mr. Harry Shine, and the fact that the Dartos are back again, were mainly instrumental in bringing a large audience to the Theatre Royal on Saturday evening. Mr. Shine had several enthusiastic recalls, and he and Miss Violet Elliott were given a hearty send-off. The Dartos danced themselves into high favour, and the quaintness of their acknowledgments was by no means the least interesting part of the performance. The Rios, especially the ladybearer, are excellent acrobats and gymnasts, and provide a first-class turn. Miss Alma Gray, a youthful serio-comic singer and danseuse, was seen at her best, and Miss Elsie Rosser came in for a good deal of applause. The song and dance of the Worrall Sisters plainly showed that they are still favourites. An item near the end of the programme — the coon songs of Miss Maud Faning — proved a trump card. Messrs. James Williams, Jim Marion, Les Warton, George Dean, and Johnny Collins were all warmly received. The first appearance of Miss Jennie Opie is announced for to-night, and for to-mor-row night Miss Nellie Herberte and Master Roy Murphy aro billed.
