NEW ZEALAND CRICKET ASSOCIATION.
The annual report of the New Zealand Cricket Association, which is to tie presented to the delegates at Christchurch early in October, states that the Council is anxious to have a match North v. South Island played some time in December, either in Wellington or Christchurch. It is hoped the match will be an annual fixture, and a source of revenue to thd Council. In the event of the English team not coming to New Zealand an invitation will be sent to one of the Australian Associations to send a team to the colony about the end of the season. Owing to the excitement which prevailed in connection with the jioer War, and the departure of so raany New Zealanders to the scene of action, together with the universal sadness caused by the death of Queen Victoria, the game of cricket suffered much throughout New Zealand and Australia last season. The Tasmanian Association, owing to similar- causes, could not send a team to New Zealand, and the much-talked-of match North v. South Island did not take place, as it was deemed unwise to increase the indebtedness of some £50 when, judging from the experience of affiliated associations, which made little or nothing, over inter-provin-cial matches, it was doubtful if the match would prove a financial success. The Council will endeavour to arrange for a visit, from the Maclaren team. The balance-sheet shows a debit balance of £16 11b 2d.
