HARBOUR BOARD.
; The. monthly meeting of the Harbour Board was held yesterday afternoon. There were present — Messrs. H. JJeauchamp (Chairman), G. Fisher, M.H.R., fi. Cook, N. Reid, and W. Booth, and the Mayor of Wellington. 1 The bank books showed credit balances on current account and imprest wages account of £6600 4s 9d and £900 respectively. Payments were authorised as lollowa: — Accounts and wages, £i2oo ■ 18s 3d ; salaries, £476 7s 3d ; progress on contracts,. £866 9s 3d ; total, £4646 14s 9d. The amount on fixed deposit' 'is £33,000. • Tho chairman reported 1 that ho had ac- , cepted the tender of Mr. J. J. K. Powell for Uie- supply df 2276 tons of broken road metal at 7s 2d ~por ton, and for .'172 tons of quarry screenings* ftr blind- , ing at 6s pet ton, and that of Mr. John Catrke for 900 cubic yards of quarried spawls at 6s per cubic yard ; that Mr. T. M. Wilford', M.H.R., and the Hon. C. J. Johnston, M.L.C., have undertaken Che, charge in Parliament of the Wellington Harbour Board Act, 1879, Amendment Bill ; and that the Bill has been approved -by the Local Bills Committee ot the House oi Representatives. The Wharves and Accounts Committee report recommended: — 1. That the seal be affixed to ad agreemorit with the Wellington Steam Ferry Company, Ltd., relative to the services rendered to the pilot service^ and to charges to be made for towage. 2. That the modified pen- • alty of £26 be inflicted as liquidated damages on Messrs. John M'Lean and Son for delay in the completion of contract No. 9t, staging at Jervois-quay. 3. That v bylaw be prepared providing that, where a vessel i» moved from one .part of the wharf to another part, or from one wharf to auothor wharf, for the-con-venience of the Board, no Harbourmaster's removal fees be charged. The Board adopted tlie recommendations. It was decided to call for tenders for a further supply of 10,000 loads of filling for Waterloo-quay toulh, and also to obtain, at an estimated cost of £630, two mushroom anchors and chain cable ■ Avith buoys for use in connection with the coal hulk Occident, belonging to the Union Company, and another hulk expected toon to arrive in port.
