SHOPS AND OFFICES BILL.

[it TEI.KOBA7B — PHESS ASSOCIATION.] CHRISTCHURCH, This Day. A large meeting of bank clerks was held last night to protest against the clauses in tbe Shops and Offices Bill affeoting bank oiucbra. It was decided to mako a suggestion to the Weliffigton Central Committeee to tho effect that while [iiot desiring the passage of the Bill, if it were passed an effort shou'vd' be made to get a clause inserted providing for the payment of overtime to all officers without exception. A considerable quantity of evidence has been taken by the Labour Bills Committee of the Legislative Council with regard to those clauses in the Shops and .Offices Bill which particularly affect pertions engaged in banks, warehouses, and insurance companies' offices. So far all the evidence has borne put the protests raised against the proposed legislation, and which have been voiced at meetings held in various part* of tho country. There is every reason to expect that unless evidence in a contrary direction is forthcoming the Committee will be compelled to report against tho inclusion of those particular clauses in the Bill. It is somewhat strango that no one has yet been able to discover at whose instigation th.e'ie particular clauses were inserted, nor which particular Minißter is responsible for them.

Messri. A. R. Mooch and Co. adVerliso nn unreserved tale of furniture and efTcrtu, watches, bicycle*, otc., at thoir rooms, tomorrow, at 2 p.m. Messrs W. K.
