The steamer Lusitania, at one time engaged in the Australian mail service, while on a voyage from Liverpool to Montreal, went ashore at Capo Ballard, Newfoundland. Five hundred passengers who were on board were saved. . THE VESSEL A HOPELESS WBECK. PANIO AMONG THE PASSENGERS. (Received June 28, 10.17 a.m.) ST. JOHN'S, 27th June. The Lusitania is a hopeless wreck. When the vessel struck the passengers became panic-stricken, and tried to rush the boats, using their knives. The officers with difficulty regained control. The women and children, almost naked, were dragged up the cliffs by the inhabitants.
