THE CENSUS RETURNS. POPULATION OF THE FOUR CENTRES.

Interesting details of the population of the four chief centres of the colony, with their suburbs, have been supplied by the Registrar-General (Mr. yon Dadelszen). With regard to the figures for Wellington it may be mentioned that if the* population oi Petone was added it would be brought up to 54,072, as against 49,292 without such inclusion. The Registrar-General, however, holds that there is no reason why Petone should be so included, as it is quite outside what the Department regards as the suburban limit.
