ENTERTAINMENTS, E2C* "lOLANTHE."
The Opera House was crowded in every part last night on the occasion of the fifth performance of, the tuneful opera "lolanthe," by the Wellington Amateur Operatic and Dramatic Society. Among those "present was a party from Government House. The performance went with a most agreeable swing, and the frequent outbursts of applause, enthusiastic encores, and presentation of floral offerings to the principals, showed how thoroughly the performance was appreciated, "lolanthe" will be staged again this evening. A series of first-class pictures are being exhibited by means of the kinwnatograph at the Choral Hall each evening. The several artists »are giving the audiences full value for the price of admittance, and the public is recognising this by attending largely. Miss Elsie Lennard makes her initial appearance to-night. ( The Theatre Royal .combination still holds its position in the public estimation, and last flight the house was well filled. To-night the. -first appearance of Mis.se Delia Ross, dancer, is announced. Messrs. Cooper and Macdermott, who have finished a successful season in, the Princess Theatre, Dunedin,, will open, the Exchange Hall for, a short season commencing on Thursday evening, when they will give one of their patriotio pictorial displays, the chief feature of which will be their living pictures in, connection with the Duke of York's ' visit. \ A film, showing the, Royal yacht Ophir, and the embarkation of the Royal party, "is claimed, to be amongst the finest living pictures yet shown, Messrs. Fuller and Sons' touting variety company leWes to-day fqr Blenheim and the West Coast. It includes Misses Lena Young, Alice Maher, Edith. Norris, May Lewis, Messrs. Aubrey Douglas* Mike Maher, Jack Lyndon. Fred Norris, and Professor Marsden, al? well known to habitues of the Choral HalJ. Mr. J. E. Petherick goes in charge of the company. An opportunity was taken during the performance at the Choral Hall last even.- i . ing to present Mr. J. E. Petherick, > who has acted as for Messrs. The Marguerite Private Quadrille, As- . 'sembljjr will open its season this evening. A good musical programme arranged by the Misses Walker and Kibblewhite, was given at the Sailors' Rest lasfr evening. Among the performers were Misses Walker, Dunlop, Kibblewhite, and Harvey, Messrs. Hollis, Dunlop, Minifia (2), and Harrison. Miss Kibble\rhite was accompanist. * The weekly meeting of the Pioneer Lodge of Good Templars was held last night at the Rechabite Hall, Brother E. A. Drury, 0.T., presiding. One candidate was admitted on clearance card; and f after th« transaction of . routine business the doors were opened to the general public and an, excellent programme was provided by Sisters Hyde, jun., Lucas (2), Drury, and M y DonalcT (2), and Brothers^ M'Hwhane, Martin, Netherton, D. Hovaitt, and Drury. "The Wredk of the Tararua" was tbuchingly recited by Miss Trueman, and received well-merited applause. A vote of thanks to visitors^ was passed and also a special vote to Brother Hay for having presided at the pianoforte.
