THE PACIFIC CABLE. SURVEYING FOR THE SOUTHERN SECTIONS.
[press association.] (Received May 28, 9.10 a.m.) BRISBANE, Thjs Day. The cable steamer Britannia will leave Hero to-day to make a survey between Queensland and Norfolk Island. A tcr-house will be erected on the island, and the vessel will then proceed to New Zealand, taking soiindings all' the way. A te^t-house will also be ciected in Now Zealand, but as the northernmost point of the North Island i; considered unsuitable, a site will be selected further south. Air. Peake, engineer in charge, accom-paiiic-i tha Britannia. It is hoped that everything will be leady for laying the Australian to New Zealand section of the cable in March iiext. Aji that work will not take much time, the connection should bo made soou alterwardft.
