The fetes were brilliant, and passed off without a hitch. Their Royal Highnesses, who are delighted with their visit, will sail to-mor« row for Singapore, and thence, accompanied by cruisers, will proceed directto Melbourne. Among tho guests at the native Durtav in honour of the Duke was Arabi Pasha, the Egyptian exile. (Received April 16, 9.23 a.m.) LONDON, 15th April. Tho newspapers eulogise the practical character of the Duke of York's speeches. HARD ON THE HORSES. (Received April 16, 9.55 a.jn.) MELBOURNE, This Day. Great pains are being taken with,' the horses to draw tho royal carriages, umbrellas, flying paper, fearful brass •bands, waving handkerchiefs, flags, gunand other discordant sounds being their daily lot. MELBOURNE,' 15th April. A proposal is afoot to secure a simultaneous singkig of the National Anthem ,and hoisting of tho Union Jack throughout the Statps on a signal given by the Duchess of ' Cornwall. CHRIST.OHURCH, 15th April. The Acting-Mayor, with' Mr. A. E. G. Rhodes, waited upon the Governor this morning Avith respect to the Royal visit. The question of; the route of the procession was discussed, and the present arrangements for housi&g the Royal .party during their stay in Christchurch may be altered. • Mr. T. S. Weston, -Chairman of tho Board of Govepnorc of the Ganterbcry College, and Chairman of tho Board of Education, tars received a .tetter from" (the Governor stating that time will not admit of the Duke and Duchess visiting the College or State school .during their stay in ChristcTiurch. , This Day. 21ie iEacecutive Committee in -connection with the Royal visit suggested that the cost should be borne as follows: — City .Council, 9-18ths, £1350 ; Sydeninm, Linwood, and St. Albans Borough Councils, 2-18ths cadi t £300 j Heathcote, Riccarton,' and Avon Road Boards, 1"-T8th each, £150 ; and Wiat the obher loqal bodies in North Canterbury should be asked to contribute. The City Coiyicil and the Sydenham Borough Council last night agreed to tho proportions ■ allotted them. Linwood adopted it, with a reservation that it would not pay more than £300. Captain' Wallington, Private Secretary to tho Governor/Qenerujl of Australia, for the guidance of those who -intend presenting addresses to tho Duke of York, prescribes tho following form, particulars ol which have just arrived from London : — "To His jioyal Highness George Frederick Ernest Albert, Duke oi .Cornwall and YorJc, Earl' of Inverness, and Baron Killarney, Knight of the Most Noble Order of the Garter, Knight of the Most Ancient -and Most Noble Order jof the Thistle, Knight,. of the Most Illustrious Order oi St. Patrick, and Knight Grand Cross of the Royal Victorian Order."
