The report is reiterated in London that Adam, wifch' the alias oi Raymond, was tho leader of the gang who stole Gainsborough's famous picture of' the Duchess of Devonshire, recently discovered in America. The members of the gang also represented themselves as safe makers. They sold safes, and afterwards robbed jtbem on the customers'^ premises by means 6T duplicate keys. In 1893 Adam was sentenced to seven years' imprisonment by a Belgian Court for robbery of a mail train.'
