CARRIAGE OF CREAM ON THE RAILWAYS.

The Minister- for Railways was interviewed to-day ,by Messrs.. O. A. Beattie (Rational' .Dairy .Association) and A. S. Biss (New Zealand Dairy Farmers' Union), who brought several grievances ' under his notice. The deputation urged ' that' there was unnecessaiy delay in bring- , ing cream by rail to 'the central butter ' factories. For instance, cream placed on the train at Newman in the morning did not reacb Wellington until the next day. The deputation also complained that owing to the cans being insufticiejitly protected in the railway cars a conaidorable quantity of cream was spilt, asai that the insulation of some of the cays in which dairy produce was brought to Wellington was not as perfect as it should be', the' result being 1 that the consignments ' were apt to deteriorate in j quality. ■ ' The Minister undertook to have the grievance regarding the spilling of cream removed at once, and he also promised to give his -earliest attention to the other matters mentioned. Mr. Ward admitted the importance of fostering the dairy industry, and the • deputation was yell pleased with his replies.- Mr. Greville, dairy expert, was present during the interview, and explained the details of his patent for the more perfect- insu'ation of railway cars.
