The Duke of Genoa (the King ot Italy's grand-uncle), commanding the Italian squadron visiting Toulon, exchanged cordial visits with President Loubet, who journeyed to Toulon to attend the French naval fete. The demeanour of the people of Toulon towards their Italian and Russian visitors is described as courteous but reserved. The King of Italy has conferred • the Order of the Annunziata, upon President Loubet, who on his part has decorated the Duke of Genoa and Rear-Admiral Birileff, commander of the Russian squadron at Toulon, with the Grand Cordon of the Legion of Honour. * Speaking at a banquet in honour of the Duke of Genoa, President Loubet said he hoped the cordial relations already existing between France and Italy would be drawn closer. The Duke of Gonoa replied that he would acquaint King Victor Emmanuel with tha cordiality of his reception. The public regard the visit of the Duke of Genoa's squadron as an act of politeness only.
