John Grotty, an old nnd respected settler at Waipipi, whs found lying on the Waipipi road nearly dead, and died shortly after being J.*ound. He left Waiuku the pievious evoning, driving a spring cart, and must have been thrown out. A peculiar accident happened at Mangaweka on Wednesday (says an exchange), when a settler named S. Lone, who was clearing a piece of bush, nearly cut off 'his no.se with un axe. Tho implement apparently caught' in a vine as ho was swinging it, and turned it round, cutting the nose through above the bridge. The sufferer held the injured organ in place until a friend secured it with stickingplaster. An eight-year-old boy named Clifford Hawes, son of a Kaiwarra- resident, was yesterday thrown out of a trap against a fence on the Hutt-road.
