NAVAL SAILING CUTTERS.

The fourth annual sailing competition for the Bates Zealandia Cup between the Wellington and Petone .Naval Artillery took place over the Petone course on Saturday afternoon. The Wellington Corps was represented by two crews under C.P.O. Rabe and P.O. Peterson, and the Petone cutter was sailed by P.O. Edmonds. The course was , from Petone Wharf round a buoy off Korokoro, round Somes Island, and back to the wharf. A fine northerly sailing breeze was blowing. The three cutters got away nicely together, and the winning boat, sailed by P.O. Peterson, after leading all the way, came in 4min ahead of ti.P.O Rabe's crew, whioh was ar similar distance ahead of the Petone boat. The winning crew consisted of P.O. Peterson, (coxswain) and Gunners Hamilton, Smith, M'Conkey, Lewis, Bayne, Evans, Wells, and Highet. Lieutenant Bifis was starter and P.O. Pettlit acted as judge. The cup has now been won twice by each company. The trophy, which is a valuable one, was presented by Captain. Bates, of the Zealandia.
